AOL Bridging Notes

Last Updated 9/28/2024

All Scouts

There are a lot of familiar faces between Pack 3 and many of the scout troops. You are not alone as you make the transition from Cub Scouts to Scouts BSA. Please reach out if you have any questions. We are here to help make this an easy transition.

Key Dates

  • February 24, 2025

    • AOL Bridging Ceremony (the graduation ceremony)

  • February 28 - March 2

    • Okpik at Camp MK Brown (first Scouts BSA event you will eligible to attend)

    • This is a merit badge camp where you will be able to earn your first 2-3 merit badges

  • March / ASAP

    • Make troop summer camp deposits

  • April / May 2025

    • Most summer camp fees will be due by the end of April or early May

    • Sell lots of popcorn NOW! Your scout account funds can transfer to the troop.

    • Troops may have first year scout discounts and/or scholarships. Ask about these!

How does my registration transfer to the troop?

You DO NOT need to do anything to transfer your registration. Pack 3 leadership will transfer your registration through the online system in March once we confirm with the scout office that the registration renewals have successfully closed at the end of February.

You DO NOT have to pay the national registration fees again. Pack 3 will pay your annual registration renewal if it is due before you transfer. See below for troop new member dues amounts that cover things like troop supplies and advancements.

Medical forms

If you have turned in a medical form Part A & B to the pack, I will take it from our pack records so that you can turn it over to the troops. This record will cover you for upcoming weekend campouts.

Part C will be required to go to longer camps (i.e. summer camp). Each troop has medical professionals that will do physicals at a troop meeting sometime later in the spring.

Cub Scout Accounts

Once registrations have been successfully transferred to each troop, the pack treasurer will write a check to each troop to transfer any funds from your cub scout account to your new scout account. If you would like to make other arrangements (ex. transfer money to a cub scout sibling), please let us know. Please note that cub scout account balances can't be refunded because of IRS rules related to our fundraising.

Adult Registration

The rules for Scout overnight events are slightly different than Cub Scouts and were updated September 2023. ALL adults who attend an overnight event (campout, lock-in, etc.) are required to register. These rules ensure that adults have passed the required background check and have completed Youth Protection Training (YPT).

Camping Gear

You don't have to go buy everything the first day. Many troops have gear available to borrow. Part of the rank requirements your scouts will be working on teaches them what to pack for campouts. There are also lots of experienced adult leaders around if you have any questions.

The ALPS brand has a special program through Hiker Direct for all of the scouting programs. This is a great way to get quality gear at excellent prices.
